The preliminary assessment of the 2023/2024 crop season revealed a reduction of 13.89% in soybean production in Mato Grosso do Sul. According to the latest estimate, grain production was revised to 12.923 million tons, with an average productivity of 50.5 sacks per hectare, indicating a decrease of 19.12% compared to the previous crop season. These data were released by the Mato Grosso do Sul Soybean Producers Association (Aprosoja/MS) on Tuesday (9), based on the survey conducted by its technical team, which has already covered an area of 690 thousand hectares using the Geographic Information System of Agribusiness (SIGA-MS).

So far, approximately 93.8% of the total cultivation area has been harvested, which corresponds to approximately 4.001 million hectares. The southern region of the state has the highest progress in harvesting, with an average of 96.5%, followed by the central region with 93.6% and the northern region with 83.1% of the area already harvested. However, compared to the same period last year, the harvest is delayed by 1.6 percentage points.

Aprosoja/MS President Jorge Michelc explained that the adverse results in the crop season are attributed to unfavorable weather conditions throughout the cycle. "Since planting, Mato Grosso do Sul producers have faced challenges due to a shortage of rain. In addition to the planting delay, it was necessary to replant more than 240 thousand hectares, mainly in the central region of the state. Now we are seeing the repercussions of this in the field, with irregular crops and low productivity, which directly impacts the profitability of the properties," said Michelc.

According to SIGA-MS projections and based on crop history, it is estimated that soybean harvesting will end in the last week of April, when final data on area, productivity, and production will be confirmed.
