Brazilian nut companies join forces to enhance the value of their product in international markets

The Export Executive Tables, orchestrated by ApexBrasil, aim to boost the international presence of Brazil nuts, a product crucial for maintaining the standing forest. Extracted in forest-managed areas by local communities, these nuts not only oer a healthy, selenium-rich snack but also serve as a vital income source for those preserving the forest.

To increase revenue for local communities, Brazilian nut-producing companies convened on February 6 for the inaugural meeting of the Export Executive Board at ApexBrasil's oce in Belém. The initiative, spearheaded by the Agency, strives to facilitate the sector's internationalization by addressing foreign trade challenges.

Despite being native to the Amazon, Brazil's share in Brazil nut exports is relatively low. In 2022, the country accounted for only half of the sales of the peeled product, totaling $25.5 million. The challenge for Brazilian producers is to reverse this situation, focusing on delivering the value-added peeled product to high-purchasing-power consumers interested in supporting sociobiodiversity.

Throughout 2024, companies and cooperatives in the sector will collaborate in the Export Executive Board for Nuts, supported by ApexBrasil, to devise solutions for common challenges and overcome obstacles hindering these exports. ApexBrasil's President, Jorge Viana, emphasizes that the program aligns with the Agency's goal of decentralizing Brazilian exports and boosting the North region's contribution.

Salo Coslovsky, representative of Amazon 2030 and a partner in the initiative,

expresses optimism, describing the Export Executive Tables as an innovative and promising initiative supporting the bioeconomy in the Brazilian Amazon. He sees the program as empowering avant-garde producers, enhancing competitiveness through exports, and encouraging public sector support to overcome critical bottlenecks.
