The soybean processing industry workers' union in Argentina (SOEA) went on strike this Thursday to protest against a government bill seeking labor reform, stated the union leader operating in the northern part of Rosario, the agro-industrial hub of the South American country.
Argentina stands as one of the two largest exporters of soybean oil and soybean meal. The strike occurs during one of the busiest periods for Argentina's agricultural commodities sector, with farmers nearing the end of the 2023/24 soybean harvest.
