
Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $15.20 billion in June 2024, a slight increase from $15.02 billion in May 2024. The export volume of grains rose from 14.96 million tons in June 2023 to 15.07 million tons in June 2024, marking a 0.7% increase. Alongside the rise in grain exports, there were significant increases in the export quantities of sugar cane (+335,100 tons), pulp (+182,800 tons), uncarded and uncombed cotton (+100,100 tons), soybean meal (+84,000 tons), and green coffee (+64,600 tons). Consequently, the export quantity index for agribusiness showed a positive change of 4.5%.
"The increase in exports in the first half of 2024 reflects not only the excellence of our products but also the results of record market openings and continuous dialogue with other countries. The government's incentive and the support from the sector and associations have been fundamental for this growth, demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of Brazilian agribusiness in the international market, as well as the quality and rigorous sanitary control of our products," emphasized Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Commerce and International Relations at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (Mapa).
Over the past 12 months, agribusiness exports totaled $166.20 billion, a 2.4% increase compared to the previous 12 months. From July 2023 to June 2024, agribusiness products accounted for 48.6% of all Brazilian exports, up 0.2 percentage points from the period between July 2022 and June 2023.
Highlights of Brazilian Agribusiness Products:
In the first half of 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $82.39 billion, the second-highest value recorded in the historical series. During this period, the five main sectors of Brazilian agribusiness stood out significantly in exports. The soybean complex led, reaching $33.53 billion, representing 40.7% of the total agribusiness exports.
The meat sector followed, exporting $11.81 billion, equivalent to 14.3% of agribusiness exports. The sugar-alcohol complex recorded $9.22 billion, accounting for 11.2% of the total, while forest products totaled $8.34 billion, representing 10.1%. Finally, the coffee sector reached $5.31 billion, equivalent to 6.4% of exports. Together, these sectors were responsible for 82.8% of Brazilian agribusiness exports.
The meat sector, the second-largest exporter, showed a 1.6% growth compared to 2023, reaching $11.81 billion. Beef stood out, representing 48.1% of the export value, with $5.14 billion, an increase of 18.3%. The quantity of in natura beef exported was a record, totaling 1.14 million tons, a growth of 29.1%.
The sugar-alcohol complex saw its exports increase from $5.99 billion in 2023 to $9.22 billion in 2024, a growth of 54.1%. Sugar, the main product of the sector, reached $8.66 billion, an increase of 62.8%. Exports of raw sugar cane were also record-breaking, both in value, at $7.21 billion, and in quantity, with 14.33 million tons.
Forest products recorded a growth of 11.9%, totaling $8.34 billion. Pulp accounted for 59.6% of this total, with $4.97 billion, an increase of 19.5%. The exported quantity of pulp also set a record for the first half of the year, with nearly 10 million tons, a growth of 3.1%.
The coffee sector stood out with external sales of $5.31 billion, a growth of 46.1% in value and 52.1% in quantity compared to the previous year.
Additionally, other products also showed notable performances. Uncarded and uncombed cotton reached a record of $2.68 billion, an increase of 236%, with 1.39 million tons exported, a growth of 228%. Orange juice also set a record, with $1.25 billion in exports, an increase of 24%.
