Data from the 2022/23 harvest, monitored by IBGE, unveils intriguing agricultural insights often overlooked within the Venâncio-Airense community.

In the latest harvest, Venâncio Aires secured a noteworthy position in the state ranking for peanut production, leading among the main producers. The municipality harvested 90 tons, generating R$540,000. Although slightly less than the previous harvest's 96 tons, Venâncio Aires outperformed, with Paraíso do Sul securing the second position in Rio Grande do Sul with 60 tons harvested.

Despite maintaining a consistent cultivation area of 30 hectares for ten consecutive harvests, peanuts in Venâncio Aires witnessed growth in production. Climate issues also played a role, evident in the 2019/2020 harvest production of 27 tons.

While Venâncio Aires led the recent peanut production harvest in Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo takes the lead among states, concentrating 90% of the country's peanut production. The harvest in São Paulo is concluding its final phase, with new projections by the National Supply Company (Conab) indicating a 3.8% growth in the 2023/24 cycle, reaching around 927 thousand tons.

Conab reports that in São Paulo, the primary peanut producer, the positive scenario has attracted farmers who now view peanut cultivation as a primary option rather than an alternative, such as sugarcane controls.

Data from the Institute of Agricultural Economics emphasizes Brazil's continued growth in the international peanut sector in 2023, with a 4.28% increase in exported volume and a substantial 33.40% rise in values compared to 2022. A total of 297 thousand tons of peanut grains were exported, amounting to US$443 million. The primary destinations for peanut kernels are Russia (28.31%), Algeria (23.59%), and the Netherlands (9.56%).
