The Port of Paranaguá, situated along the coast of Paraná, has emerged as the leading hub for the soybean complex exports in Brazil at the onset of 2024, commanding 37.5% of the total exports, as per data sourced from Comex Stat, a Brazilian foreign trade tracking system.
Following closely behind, the Port of Santos (SP) secures the second position, contributing 20.9% to the overall export volume, while the Port of Rio Grande (RS) stands at third place with a 10% share.
In January of the current year, the Port of Paranaguá facilitated the movement of 1,822,656 tons of the soybean complex, with a notable surge in soybean exports reaching 1,177,616 tons, marking a remarkable 202% increase compared to the corresponding period of the preceding year.
Soybean meal, essential for animal feed production, claimed the second spot in terms of movement, recording a volume of 606,321 tons, reflecting a substantial 118% rise compared to January 2023.
Conversely, the movement of soybean oil, utilized across various sectors including food and pharmaceuticals, amounted to 38,719 tons, registering a decrease from the previous year's volume.
The robust performance in both export and import activities propelled Portos do Paraná to commence 2024 on a positive trajectory, handling a total volume of 5,064,683 tons in January, showcasing a notable 20% increase compared to the same period in the preceding year.
Presently, China emerges as the primary destination for exports facilitated through the ports in Paraná, with January recording exports worth US$758 million.
The cumulative revenues from foreign markets amounted to US$1.82 billion in the initial month of the year, marking a significant surge of 29.2% compared to January 2023.
