During the week between April 8th and 12th, the mills in the state of São Paulo reached a significant milestone in the ethanol market. According to a survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP, the volume of hydrated ethanol traded reached the second highest value of the year, behind only the one registered in the week ending January 19th.
The data reveal a trend of significant growth in ethanol sales by São Paulo mills. Compared to the same period in 2023, the amount sold more than tripled, indicating robust demand and a favorable environment for the sector.
This expansion in ethanol sales reflects not only an economic recovery but also changes in consumption patterns and policies to promote the use of biofuels. Hydrated ethanol has emerged as a sustainable and economical alternative to fossil fuels, driving the market and contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
Moreover, the increase in ethanol sales can be attributed to various factors, such as the gradual resumption of economic activities, the growth of the flex-fuel vehicle fleet, and fluctuations in the prices of traditional fuels. This market dynamic highlights the strategic importance of the sugarcane industry for São Paulo's economy and for the country as a whole.
As São Paulo's mills continue to drive ethanol production and sales, the sector is expected to remain a key pillar for Brazil's environmental sustainability and economic development.
