The purpose of these meetings was to discuss commercial relations between Goiás and Germany, identifying business opportunities to boost trade and cooperation between the two governments. The Secretary of Industry, Commerce, and Services (SIC), Joel de Sant’Anna Braga Filho, held discussions with the German Ambassador to Brazil, Bettina Cadenbach, in Goiânia, focusing on enhancing commercial ties between Goiás and Germany.
Taking place last week on March 20th and 21st, the meeting aimed to identify business opportunities and strengthen trade and cooperation between the two governments. Braga Filho emphasized Goiás' commitment to environmental policies and sustainability across various industries, expressing a desire for increased exports to Germany, including clothing, sweets, dairy products, and other goods.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Giordano Souza, Head of the International Affairs Office of the Government of Goiás, Juliano Mendes, Undersecretary, and Plínio Viana, Superintendent of Foreign Trade and Investment Attraction.
The discussions with the German Ambassador were introductory, focusing on commercial and environmental issues and exploring potential collaborations. Souza noted that while no specific agreements were reached during the meeting, the ambassador showed keen interest in trade and environmental matters and would relay the information to relevant parties in Germany, suggesting the possibility of future collaborations with the European Union representation in Brazil.
The discussions also highlighted Goiás' industry strengths, rigorous environmental legislation, sustainable energy policies, and potential for bilateral agreements beneficial to companies in Goiás, especially in sectors vital to the European economy.
In terms of trade volume, the period from January to February 2024 witnessed a significant increase in imports and exports between Goiás and Germany, reaching US$151,995,886—a 20.55% rise compared to the same period in 2023. This upward trend reflects the growing foreign trade between the two regions, with a steady increase observed since 2021, reaching US$811,449,577 in 2023.
